Photonics is heavily covered by the commercial
press and by technical societies producing voluminous records of research and
development. Thus, the avid reader can follow the latest in photonics
exquisite detail. Coverage of the individual publications is always
restricted, though so multiple sources are generally required to fill in the
gaps. The listings here, while by no means complete, can provide the
foundation for study.

Most free commercial publications
restrict their circulation to some subset of the world to focus the expenditures
of their advertisers. Coverage of technology is generally unrestricted but
there is generally a tendency to favor the home companies in business and new
product reporting. Most publications now offer digital editions.
